Classic Box is a new superior dark green, fine, glossy leaved classic hedging plant. Extremely hardy, reliable and long lived, it is easy to shape and fast growing without being too vigorous.
Classic Box is a rare form of Privet that is a little more slower growing than Box Leaf Privet, with much finer, glossier, and darker green leaves. The species is not one of the invasive forms of privet that drop berries so no need to worry.
Classic Box has thin branches and stems, and is a very easy plant to cut and shape. It grows at roughly 80cm per year. Plant them at 2-3 per metre for a nice thick hedge. Classic Box is ideal for a hedge anywhere between 3-8ft tall. The most interesting feature is that it had fine, long white racemes of flowers in late spring that are lightly fragrant. It will flower around late October.
We can vouch for Classic Box as a superior hedge plant as it was developed by Chris’ brother. After another nurseryman saw a property with beautiful long Classic Box hedges he’d created, he decided to grow them in the thousands to sell as an exclusive line to Bunnings. Unfortunately or fortunately, Bunnings weren’t interested in this new and relatively unknown hedging plant. Seeing his plight, Chris has bought up the lot and we’re clearing them at below production cost.
