What Happened to Chris & Marie?

Please note! Chris and Marie’s Plant Farms and their Campbellfield nursery went into liquidation on the 20th of August 2014. We employ Chris as a garden expert and horticultural consultant, as well as some of Chris and Marie’s former staff.

A Message from Chris

Hello Hello to all my customers and friends. You may have heard that Chris and Marie’s Plant Farms was liquidated, and I wanted to tell you the story myself.

Back in 2011 I took my business Chris and Marie’s Plant Farms back over from administrators with almost no plants, one run down nursery and a truck with bald tires. I did not know how I was going to pay wages, rent or keep the place going, but rather than hanging up my pink tutu, I decided to work hard to build the business back up to pay back my past debts. Since then we had bounced back as Melbourne’s biggest nursery, kept up our payments to past creditors and helped over 100,000 customers with their gardens.

I made sure I kept up payments to my suppliers along the way, but in the last 12 months the business fell behind on its tax. I had estimated that I would be able to get on top of it this Spring, as we had been doing a roaring trade thanks to all you garden lovers out there and the next few months were set to be our biggest in 10 years. However the Australian Taxation Office was unwilling to give me an extension. Instead they called in the liquidators, our doors were closed and my staff locked out of my Campbellfield nursery on Thursday the 14th of August without notice.

It was a very stressful day for myself and my staff, as well as my immediate family, who all worked for Chris and Marie’s in one way or another. However to their credit this amazing group of people has got behind me and offered tremendous support through this tough time.

My old nursery at 1477 Sydney Rd Campbellfield is being run by liquidators, who are now in control of all the assets of Chris and Marie’s Plant Farms. I’m not sure how long it will remain open. Hello Hello Plants & Garden Supplies at 448 Mt Alexander Rd Ascot Vale is a new nursery where I am an employee, and they worked with the liquidators to clear some of thousands of plants that belonged to Chris & Marie’s.

I personally wanted to help the liquidators to clear all this stock so that as much of the proceeds as possible go back to who they’re owed to (mostly the ATO). Now that the dust has settled, I just want to get on with helping people with their gardens. I’ll be at Ascot Vale most days doing free garden designs and offering advice. Nothing flatters my figure quite like my pink tutu, and I know so much about plants and gardens that it would be a waste not to put it to good use helping the people of Melbourne.

What I think you need to know as a customer:

My customers are very important to me, and I’ve given a lot of thought to how I can give this cloud a silver lining for you all. Firstly, if you come to Hello Hello Plants in Ascot Vale, I’ll be there to help with garden designs and advice, and we have everything you need to fill your garden. The administrators seized my pink tutu but I will do my best to get it back!

Unfortunately the liquidators will not be refunding any undelivered orders made with Chris and Marie’s Plant Farms. However if you had an online order before the 14th of August, PayPal’s buyer protection will allow you to get a refund if you request this through PayPal.

I estimate approximately 30 customers did not receive their orders from Chris and Marie’s Plant Farms. Most will be able to get a refund through PayPal, but if you are having difficulty with this or if you made a phone order please fill out the claim form below and I will see how I can help.

Thanks to you all for your continuing support.

All the best,
Chris Lucas
