Ficus ‘Port Jackson’ Fig Tree 8″ Pot

Ficus rubiginosa

Port Jackson Fig Tree is a perfect feature tree with an incredible root system. When the climate suits, the plant grows much larger, sending down aerial roots from the tree which, when they reach the ground quickly form roots and become much thicker. They supply nutrients to the fig, allowing it to grow faster than the host tree. The aerial roots gradually encircle the host tree, preventing its main trunk from expanding. Despite the relatively large size of the leaves, it is popular for bonsai.

  • Evergreen feature tree
  • Tolerates coastal areas
  • Excellent shade tree

8″/20cm pot

Ficus rubiginosa

Port Jackson Fig, Rusty Fig or called ‘Damun in the Dharug language.
A large, fast-growing tropical tree with evergreen foliage native to eastern Australia. It has a large spreading growth, smooth grey trunks with buttresses and oval-shaped deep green leaves with velvety brown underneath.
It prefers rich fertile soil and has high water needs, particularly during summer when young. It will withstand coastal exposure but needs protection from strong winds.
