Border plants are the finishing touches to your garden. They’re used to hide unsightly edges, to create the last and lowest tier of a well designed garden bed or to lead the eye to focal points in the garden. And they can be achieved in a variety of styles, textures and colours!
In gardening, a border or edging plant refers to a specific type of plant that is commonly used to create boundaries or borders within a garden bed or along pathways. These plants are typically shorter in height compared to other plants in the garden and are strategically placed to form a decorative edge or delineate different areas. The right height for a border is all about scale. To keep it simple, we’ve included here only plants that reach a maximum height of roughly 50cm or 1.5 feet. Larger plants for a layered garden bed can be found in the Cottage Perennials & Annuals and Shrubs categories.
