Tulbaghia violacea ‘Society Garlic’
Society garlic, also known as “wild garlic”, is a hardy perennial plant in the onion family, originating from Africa. Society garlic can grow to about 50cm tall, and has pink flowers, it looks like and is often called “pink agapanthus”. Although it’s very hardy and will withstand most conditions, it prefers a full sun, sandy, well drained position. Once established it requires very little watering. Mostly used as a decorative addition to the garden, society garlic can also be used in the kitchen, it’s not actually a type of garlic, and is more similar to chives and garlic chives. Use in the kitchen in the same way as chives, in salads, stir fries, and rice dishes, or as a garnish on a wide range of dishes.
